About Me

Photography is more than a profession or hobby for me—it is a lifelong passion and commitment. I have been practicing photography since 1981 and teaching it since 1991, dedicating over four decades to capturing moments and sharing knowledge.

After completing school, I wanted to pursue a Master’s degree in Photography, but no such program existed in Pakistan at the time. Financial constraints also prevented me from attending the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara. Instead, I earned an MBA in Marketing from Sindh University and built a successful 10-year career in computer marketing, while continuing to pursue my passion for photography.

My journey in photography education began when I enrolled in a short course at the Pakistan American Cultural Centre (PACC) in Karachi. When the instructor retired, I stepped in as a teacher in 1991 with a clear goal: to advance photography education in Pakistan. At that time, I was among the very few photography instructors in the country, and Karachi had only two camera shops.

Since then, the photography landscape has transformed dramatically. Today, Karachi has a thriving photography market with more than 80 camera shops, and over 10 institutes offer photography courses or minors. Many of these programs are led by my former students—a testament to the lasting impact of education and mentorship.

In 2006, I designed and developed Pakistan’s first Diploma in Photography at Alliance Française de Karachi, fulfilling a long-held vision of establishing structured and high-quality photography education in the country.

Since 2010, I have pursued international research and experience in photography and related visual arts. I am currently working on a comprehensive dictionary covering Photography, Graphic Art, Print Media, and Electronic Media.

From 2009 onward, I expanded my teaching to include TV production, electronic journalism, photojournalism, and photo editing for Pakistan’s media industry. My mission remains the same: to elevate photography education in Pakistan and inspire the next generation of visual storytellers.
